Liberation Series at LICHEN CENTER presents “guided exercises & conversational dance towards racial solidarity” with Estephanie Martinez

guided exercises & conversational dance towards racial solidarity

⧫ a practice of the conscientious embodiment of dialectical time as countergrowth to colonial hyperfocus ⧫

we live in a world of interwoven mythologies!

our mythologies shape our perceptions and interactions- forward and back across Time. though, for centuries now, one mythology has deemed itself the only truth. this hyperfocus has weakened our solidarity as divine, complex human beings. deepening our understanding of our divinity, complexity, and interconnectedness with land and story will support our steps of repair and healing of divisions from this inheritance.

taking these steps involves a conscientious exploration, critical analysis, excavation, reseeding, and tending of our own mythologies as a reframing of our innate worth.

through guided exercise and conversation, estephanie will help us explore how our relationships with ourselves and Time can become more interactional and dynamic in ways that expand how we move through mythological worlds in more holistic and life-giving ways.

we may lightly pass and / or take deep dives through conversations about;

  • our ancestors

  • our mythological education and beliefs

  • claiming our agency in the act of co-creating of myths

  • the weaving of Time and relationship

  • the power of our use of language

we will certainly touch on unexpected topics, maybe smaller and much larger than these- let’s keep ourselves open to the conversations that want to surface.

estephanie teaches through conversation in a way similar to how yoga instructors adjust poses. conversations will be closely facilitated. because of this style, she invites you to enter this space expecting to be lovingly interrupted, redirected, and challenged.

we will spend our time between sitting, meandering, in whole group shares, solo reflection, pairs, in dialogue, snacking, writing, and other forms of expression.

please bring a notebook and something to write with! crafts and anything else that would make you more comfortable are welcome too.
